In the remote mountain villages of Baltistan, Pakistan, many families live with little or unreliable access to electricity. During the long winter months, the situation can become even more difficult as local power sources are limited, and families may spend their evenings in darkness.
Through the Give the Needy Foundation Solar Home Project, we are bringing simple, dependable solar power directly to individual homes. Each solar home project provides a family with a fully installed and functional solar system designed to meet their basic daily needs. The system provides: Lighting inside the home, light for children to study in the evening, mobile phone charging and families able to have light after sunset.
Just like our water-well projects, a solar home project can be dedicated in honor or in memory of someone special A personalized plaque with your dedication will be placed outside the family’s home. Donors who travel to the area will also be able to identify and visit the home where their solar project was installed and see firsthand the difference their contribution has made.
From Darkness to Light
Our solar initiative began as a pilot project in the Skardu region of Baltistan. Seeing the difference that electricity could make for one family inspired us to expand the program to more homes and villages.
